Fred van Doorn
A Journey through Jazz and Film
Fred van Doorn is widely known as a film and jazz journalist in the Netherlands for, among others, Het Parool and HP de Tijd, Skoop, and Filmfan, of which he was a co-founder in 1972.
He has published various articles about cinema, with topics such as the Nouvelle Vague, Westerns, Journalists in Film, Film and Pop Music, and Film and Jazz.
After graduating from the Dutch Film Academy - which he attended around the same time as Director Paul Verhoeven (Robocop), and Director/Cameraman Jan de Bont (Speed) - he made two short films: The Length of a Star and Objectively Seen.
He worked for many years as a director, editor, and creator of successful television programs and was a co-presenter of various programs.
Fred did many interviews with actors like John Wayne, Charlton Heston etc, and made a number of TV films about authors, including Alberto Moravia, Georges Simenon, and Hugo Claus.
From 1991-1998, he was Head of Entertainment for KRO television in the Netherlands.
He is a passionate jazz enthusiast, and wrote about jazz for, among others, Haagse Post and Jazz/Jazzism, and was a guest on several radio programs.
